The Jazz Focus Big Band is a young, enthusiastic big band that has
serious fun playing jazz music. The repertoire consists of a variety of jazz
styles including blues, swing, bebop and latin. As a component of the Jazz
Department of the Music School Amsterdam the big band plays frequently in
the famous BIM-huis jazz club, Amsterdam's 'temple of jazz'. The Jazz Focus
Big Band has also participated in several festivals and competitions including
the Enschede Jazz Festival and the International Big Band Competition in Kerkrade.
In both Enschede and Kerkrade the band won the first prize in their category.
More recently in 2006 they won yet another first prize in the prestigious
Princess Christina Competition. In 2007 Jazz Focus travelled to Hungary to
participate in the European Union Youth Music Festival.
In the ten years of its existence, under the leadership of Peter Guidi, the
Jazz Focus Big Band has been a springboard for many talented, young jazz musicians
who have gone on to achieve successful professional careers on the Dutch and
international jazz scene.
