The Jazzmania Big Band

o.l.v. Peter Guidi

The Jazzmania Big Band is the professional big band connected to the Jazz Department. As well as containing own compositions and arrangements, the repertoire consists mainly of material taken from the most important stages of jazz big band history. Beginning with compositions from Duke Ellington and Lionel Hampton, the repertoire follows the historical development of the big bands from Count Basie and Woody Herman to Thad Jones and the modern arrangers of today.
Throughout the years the Big Band has been very active in the Amsterdam and Netherlands cultural scene, performing regularly at civic functions as well as top jazz clubs. It has also taken part in national and international jazz festivals such as the North Sea Jazz Festival and big band competitions where it has won a total of THIRTY TWO PRIZES.
